Project Description

URS/ROS was the general contractor selected by the USACE responsible for the design and construction of a groundwater extraction and treatment system for the groundwater remediation at the Circuitron Superfund Site. ROS was also responsible for the start-up, and has been performing the Operations and Maintenance of the plant on a full-time basis for the entire duration since start up. ROS was also responsible for constructing the 40 x 60-foot treatment plant building and the installation of 3 extraction wells. The building is a 20-feet high prefabricated metal building erected on a concrete foundation. To minimize field labor installation costs and to accelerate the construction schedule for the installation of the process equipment, ROS prefabricated all of the various process equipment on skids.

A summary of the project tasks included:

  • Installation of two groundwater monitoring wells and three groundwater extraction wells to a depth of approximately 55 feet each.
  • Installation of groundwater extraction piping and electrical cable within a single trench.
  • Construction of a 40 ft x 60 ft groundwater treatment building. This also included the removal of previously unidentified building foundations.
  • Installation of a groundwater treatment system (150 gpm)
  • Installation of a groundwater reinjection trench Site grading and restoration.
