Groundwater Remediation
Project DescriptionURS was contracted by PADEP to remediate a known BTEX and MIBE plume emanating from a former UST site. URS worked collaboratively with various PADEP representatives from a variety of disciplines to secure the recommended remedial action, which included in-situ source area treatment via chemical oxidation coupled with down gradient plume treatment via oxygen diffusion. URS is currently implementing the remedy, which includes a two-stage emplacement. An oxygen addition zone, accomplished through gas diffusion into groundwater, was established down gradient of the source area. Then in-situ chemical oxidation was implemented in the former source area. URS’ strategic performance monitoring plan enacts an effectiveness assessment design that permits remedial enhancements during post-treatment periods, further increasing the likelihood of an expedited remedial effort. The site is currently in the long-term monitoring phase as required y PADEP Act 2 Cleanup Guidelines. |
