Soil Remediation - MGP Site

Project Description

This project consisted of clearing and grubbing the site and the installation of a haul road during site mobilization and preparation. After mobilization was completed, approximately 760 linear feet of sheet piling was installed around the perimeter of the excavation area including tiebacks and whalers. In addition, a ground water treatment system was constructed on site that could process a maximum of 250 gallons per minute. During soil excavation, two 4-inch double diaphragm pumps were used to dewater the excavation area through 24-inch sumps. The treated water was tested and then discharged to the local POTW. Site restoration consisted of backfilling with 6-inch compacted lifts and seeding and mulching the disturbed areas. The sheet piles were removed and decontaminated and the ground water treatment system was dismantled and removed. Strict adherence to air monitoring standards and safety was required since the site was in very close proximity of an occupied office building and apartments. Over 10,000 man hours (union labor) were worked on this project without incident.
