Soil and Drum Removal
Project DescriptionThe Washington County Drum Site was located at the end of an approximately one-mile long dirt access road off of Route 22 outside of Pittsburgh. The site consisted of approximately 2-acres in a ravine that was used by unknown parties to illegally dump solid municipal waste, scrap tires, and 55-gallon drums filled with unknown solid and liquid contents. ROS was selected by PADEP to remove the various wastes, perform waste characterizations, and provide for proper off- site disposal of all wastes based upon their tested characteristics. To initially access the site, ROS constructed a temporary gravel access road. We then implemented various soil & erosion controls to avoid any further migration of wastes or sediment into an adjacent creek during the removal. Scrap tires were sent off-site for disposal, with a portion sent for recycling. Restoration (approximately 2 acres) followed the completion of all remedial activities. |
